About Us

Virginia Premier Health Plan, Inc. is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO, IPA model), which began operations as a full service Medicaid HMO in August 1995.

VPHP is contracted with the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services to provide health care services to the recipients of the Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS) and Medicaid's Temporary Aid for Needy Families and Aged, Blind and Disabled residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

VPHP was formed for the sole purpose of effectively coordinating health care for low-income persons. Owned by the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, VPHP currently services 172,175 members for May 2013.

Virginia Premier operates in over eighty counties in Central, Eastern, Western and Southwestern Virginia. The Corporate office is located in Richmond, Virginia, with other satellite offices located in Abingdon, Harrisonburg, Roanoke and Virginia Beach.
