What does NCQA stand for?
NCQA stands for the National Committee for Quality Assurance. NCQA is an independent not for profit organization that evaluates managed care organizations. Its mission s to provide information that enables purchasers and consumers of managed health care to distinguish among plans based on quality. This national organization evaluates how health plans manage all parts of their delivery systems -- physicians, hospitals and other providers in order to continuously improve health care for its members. Accreditation surveys include rigorous on-site and off-site evaluation of over 60 standards and selected performance measures.
Virginia Premier Health Plan, Inc. earned an "Excellent" accreditation status from the National Committee on Quality Assurance for the Medicaid Product line on October 16, 2007. NCQA's Excellent status is reserved for the best health plans in the nation. It is only rewarded to those health plans that meet or exceed NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement. This accreditation will expire on October 16, 2010.
